Ipswich Town
HistoryDespite only becoming Football League members in 1938, Ipswich were actually formed at a meeting held in the Town Hall way back in 1878. Mr T.C. Cobbold was voted president of Ipswich Association FC. Ipswich took this name to distinguish it from the older Ipswich Town Football Club, which played rugby. Both these clubs amalgamated in 1888 with the rugby club becoming extinct in 1893.
Ipswich Town have only won the league championship once in 1962. Their solitary F.A Cup success came in 1978. Ipswich also won the UEFA cup in 1981 at their sixth attempt. |
