Manchester United were formed in 1902 after their predecessors Newton Heath became bankrupt. Newton Heath were formed in 1878 in the dining room of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company. Newton Heath were admitted into the Second Division in 1892. Manchester United have won the league on fourteen occasions, 1908, 1911, 1952, 1956, 1957, 1965, 1967, 1993, 1994, 1996, 1997, 1999, 2000 and 2001. They have won the FA Cup ten times, 1909, 1948, 1963, 1977, 1983, 1985, 1990, 1994, 1996 and 1999. The European Cup has been won twice 1968 and 1999 and the Cup Winners Cup in 1991.
