A group of 14 and 15 year old boys living in the streets by the Thames formed
the club on 9 June 1905. The club made rapid progress through local leagues,
that after the First World War they joined the Kent League. After one season
in the Kent league they turned professional in 1920 and joined the Southern
League. They were elected to join the Football League's Division 3 (South) the
following season. Charlton have never won the English league championship. They
have won the F.A Cup once in 1947.
