I’m happy for my old club
A few right-wingers under his patio?

Newcastle can feel very happy for themselves, after losing the opening three Champions League fixtures they’ve now put themselves right back into contention. Alan Shearer had invited me up to St. James Park for the Juventus game – an offer that I’d been happy to accept. However it all ended in frustration as an hour up the M1 I was stuck in a 19 mile tailback and I ended up returning to Derby! I’d also promised to help out with some media work up there, but it wasn’t to be and I had to make do with watching the game in the box. It’s good to see my old club doing well and I was also very pleased for the goalscorer – Andy Griffin. Griff, or Freddy (he bears an uncanny resemblance to Fred West), hasn’t had the easiest of times at Newcastle. He picked up injury after injury and at one point looked like he was on the way out of the club. With me moving done to Derby there was one less competitor for the right-back berth and with Aaron Hughes moving across to provide cover at centre-back and on the left, he’s taken his chance very well. I heard that Robbie Elliott has been ribbing him after he turned up at the club an hour early when he forget to put his clock forward, sounds like Andy! But he’s a well liked boy and rightly so.

With Derby playing Sheff United on Wednesday I wasn’t able to make Newcastle last Champions League game against Kiev. Again though, I managed to watch it on the TV. I thought just like the Juve game, Newcastle deserved the victory. They’ve got a chance of progressing into the second stage and after the start they had, it’s a great recovery. However, going to Feyenoord will not be easy, there’ll be a hostile atmosphere in Holland and the fans shouldn’t underestimate Feyenoord, they won the UEFA Cup last year and held out for 1-0 win at St.James. If they progress they’ll certainly have done it the hard way!
