Sent back from Coventry

It was disappointing but not unexpected to learn that my loan spell at Coventry wouldn't be extended. It's a sign of the times that clubs are reduced to relying on loan deals to see them through a season. I have full respect for Eric Black and after I was sent off and received my suspension, he was left with little alternative other than to release me and send me back to Everton. It would have been pointless to keep me at the club and pay my wages when there's no way I could have played.

My contract is up in the summer and I really don't know what will happen. It's good to look back on a successful spell with Coventry and if Everton don't offer me a contract, then hopefully other clubs will see that I've spent some time in Division One and seem to have come out of it with good reports. Perhaps Coventry will come back in, who knows?

I can't be in the squad which travels to Newcastle this weekend as I'm still suspended. As ever, it'll be a difficult game up there, they weren't the best against Bolton and they'll want to put that right and show their fans that they deserve the fourth Champions League place. I know that they played well against Charlton in their last home game and playing Newcastle at their place is very different from playing them at Goodison. Saying that, if we catch them on a bad day we've every chance of getting three very valuable points.
