Interview - a review of the season - 20/05/2004

1 - Who is your 'player of the season'? Brendan McGill. He had a frustrating season when Roddy Collins was in charge, but this year he’s been our most consistent player and has always looked dangerous. 2 - Who is your 'young player of the season'? I’d go for Lee Andrews - he’s the only one younger than me!! Lee is another lad who Roddy Collins wouldn’t play but he’s come in been a reliable performer. Will McDonough is perhaps the most improved player in the squad. If he continues the way he’s going on…he’ll do more than alright. 3 - Best game of the season? Personally the LDV Trophy game against Huddersfield, but for a team performance I’d probably go for the Yeovil home game when we won 2-0. It was at about that time when we’d started to put our run together and our game just clicked. 4 - Best goal? Southend, unfortunately they won 2-1, but I smacked the ball form the edge of the box and it was great to see it hit the back of the net. 5 - Worst game? Personally the Mansfield home game. We were beaten 2-0 and I was poor - I didn’t play for over a month after that game and it summed up everything that was wrong with the club prior to Paul Simpson taking over. 6 - Best ground/atmosphere visited? The KC Stadium. Nearly 20,000 were there and sitting on the bench taking in the atmosphere was something a bit special. 7 - Hopes for next season? To go up as Champions. We want to finish where Chester finished this year - not messing about with the play-off’s…straight back up. From Christmas onwards we’ve been playing most third division teams off the park, it looks very likely that everyone is staying at the club and if that’s the case, we should have no problems in the Conference. It'll be tough but if we didn't think we could do it, players would be off!! 8 - Message to the fans? Yes, you didn’t have anything to shout about until Christmas and although things improved in the New Year we still couldn’t stay up. The lads are staying together because this club can go forward, not just promotion back to the Nationwide but promotion to the higher divisions. You’ve been great, stick with us and we’ll do everything to repay your faith. NB/ Craig became ill last week with what turned out to be appendicitis. After a successful operation, it looks like he'll be fit to enjoy his holiday in Cancun and come back ready for pre-season training. Official Player Sites would like to wish Craig a continued recovery and along with all Carlisle fans... a great 2004/05 season.
