Interview - looking back on the past season - 21/05/2004
After breaking on to the scene with a number of goals the previous year, Haysey had a frustrating year - effectively playing understudy to the 'golden boot' of Steve McClean. Official Player Sites asked his opinion on the past season. 1 - Who is your 'player of the season'? Steve MacClean grabbed all the headlines and all the goals, he finished top scorer in the divisonand that speaks for itself. 2 - Who is your 'young player of the season'? Andrew Butler, he got the call when the team was going through a tough time, but this didn't seem to affect him and he adapted very quickly to first team football. 3 - Best game of the season? The team's best game was probably the 3-1 away win at the KC Stadium against Hull. The fact that this was a local derby made it all the better for the boys. My high point was scoring twice at home to Oldham in the cup. 4 - Best goal? They were all tap-in's!! No, I scored a good goal against Shrewsbury, but my best was hitting a corner ball from the edge of the box that went in the statntion of the net against Cambridge. 5 - Worst game? The 5-0 defeat to Mansfield springs to mind, it was only our fourth league game of the season and hit our confidence a bit. 6 - Best ground/atmosphere visited? Either Hull or Huddersfield, both are great grounds and both games attracted good and vocal support. 7 - Hopes for next season? After making the breakthrough here, I felt that last season I was taking one step back after taking two steps forward in my first year at Scunthorpe. The gaffer has told me he wants me back sharp and trim for pre-season and that I'll be a first team player. My immediate aim is to re-establish myself in the first team.
