Iron see of Choirboys

Scunthorpe were worthy 2-0 winners of their battle with fellow high-flyers Wycombe at Glanford Park.

They dominated long spells in the first half and took a solid two-goal interval lead which proved enough to halt the visitors' unbeaten away run.

Wycombe showed plenty of pace without ever causing the home defence problems, with Andy Butler and Ian Baraclough turning in impressive displays.

Scunthorpe went ahead in the 27th minute when Paul Hayes struck a fierce angled drive from the left edge of the box.

Eleven minutes later Stuart Nethercott was penalised for a push on Hayes in the area and skipper Andy Crosby slotted the spot kick way out of the reach of Frank Talia's left hand.

Scunthorpe had ample chances before the break to have had the game sewn up but in the end were content to contain their visitors. Roger Johnson forced Paul Musselwhite to a good save late on and then Ikechi Anya struck a hopeful shot at the keeper to no avail.
