Hayes signs for the Tykes - 02/06/2005

Barnsley have completed a triple raid on the transfer market by signing Paul Hayes, Brian Howard and Richard Kell.

Hayes and Kell are arriving at Oakwell from Scunthorpe United, while Howard has joined from fellow League One side Swindon Town.

Scunthorpe's top scorer from last season Hayes, who was interesting Queens Park Rangers, has penned a two-year deal with The Tykes after rejecting a new contract at Glanford Park.

He is joined in South Yorkshire by Kell, who is currently sidelined with a broken leg suffered at the end of April.

That injury came just a day after Kell had originally agreed to join Barnsley, only for the problem to scupper the transfer.

Kell has now signed a four-month contract with Andy Ritchie's side and will earn a longer deal once he has proved his fitness.

Midfielder Howard shunned a new deal from Swindon, and an offer from Bournemouth, to ink a two-year contract with Barnsley.
