Life as a Professional

I signed a two-year contract at Brentford and immediately felt at home. Joining the Bees was a breath of fresh air and I had no regrets about dropping down to the second division.

The team spirit is excellent and with getting the results on the pitch, season 2001/2002 was a highlight of my career so far. The only disappointment was the defeat at the Millennium Stadium against Stoke in the play-off’s.

I’ve been lucky at Brentford in that the team plays the game in a style which suits me. We like to play the ball to feet and use the wings, so I see my fair share of it!

During the following season I was able to pick up where I’d left off. I played more games and doubled the number of goals scored; from four in 2001/2 to ten 2002/03 – helped by the fact that I take the pens! However we slipped from the play-off zone to mid table, probably because we had tired badly when faced with a large number of rearranged games. One of the reasons for the backlog of league games was our run in the FA Cup – going out in the 4th round to Burnley. On a personal note it felt good to be voted second in the supporters ‘player of the year award’ – first would have been better?, but I’ll be working on that!

Nationwide Division 2 Play - Off Final , Brentford v Stoke City , Millennium Stadium , Cardiff , 11/5/02

Looking at season 2003/04 I am genuinely confident that we can achieve promotion. I feel that the squad is gelling and we’re more than capable of reaching the play-off’s.
