FA Cup - 01/02/2004

Our FA Cup run came to an end against Scarborough. They scored right near the end and we lost 1-0. We’d had a few chances but hadn’t taken them. To be honest we were the better side and we had the upper hand. We were all absolutely gutted at the end of the game and we had a really long journey home afterwards. Everyone was so quiet and didn’t know what to say to one another. It was such a horrible feeling and I don’t want to have to go through that again.

The next game after that was the one where I got injured and had to come off. It was against Doncaster and we lost 2-0. I’d had a shot and I felt my thigh muscle go. I’d had this injury at the end of last season. So I’ve missed a few games having treatment.

We beat QPR 4-0 in the LDV Vans Trophy, which was a great game; obviously I wasn’t playing as I was injured. We played really well and could have scored even more goals.
While I’ve been injured I’ve seen all the home games, but not the away ones. I find it very frustrating watching the games, as I just want to be playing.

My first game back from injury was the Colchester game, the first leg of the LDV Vans Trophy Southern Final. I was a little apprehensive about playing after my injury but my fitness level was good so wasn’t too worried. We lost an early goal but we managed to get it back and were leading 3-1. We then had a player sent off, two bookings, one for an elbow and one for kicking the ball away, so we really had our backs to the wall. This happened with about 20 minutes to go, so we were down to 10 men. They got a goal back to make it 3-2. Towards the end I felt cramp coming on and was taken off with about 5 minutes remaining. With us being down to 10 men I thought it would be better to come off and have a fresh pair of legs on the pitch. Despite their late goal we’re still confident going into the second leg, and I’m really looking forward to it, should be a good game.

Our next league game is against Kidderminster, who are only a couple of places above us in the table. In fact this month we’re playing a few teams who are near us in the table and I’m looking forward to it, because if we manage to string a few wins together we could really jump up the table!
