A different view

I sat in the Milburn Paddock for the West Brom game, a few seats in front of the Press Box. One of the things that struck me were the number of young kids at the game – something that’s great to see. With it being so difficult to get tickets for the big games in the Premiership, the Carling Cup offers the chance for those who haven’t got a season ticket to see football at St. James. I hope the youngsters enjoyed it - it’s just a shame that West Brom scored in extra time and went through to the next round.

I thought we absolutely bombed them and were by far the better side. Unfortunately being the better side doesn’t win you games – we just couldn’t put the ball in their net. Football can be like that, and it was a similar scenario on Saturday. Again we were the better side, but the 1-1 score line flattered Villa and you could tell by the reaction of their players that they were more than pleased to come away with a draw. The lads are off to Basle this afternoon and it’ll be a tough game over there. It’s a close one to call but we have to be confident in our own ability – if we play to our potential we’ll go through…it’s as simple as that.
