Jamie signs new contract - 24/06/2002

The Newcastle born player made six starting appearances for The Magpies last season (league and cup) and also scored his first United goal, against Peterborough in the FA Cup - his first starting appearance of the season. Sadly for Jamie, just as he was beginning to impress, a calf injury effectively curtailed his season although he did make a number of reserve appearances towards the end of the season.

Jamie was a product of Newcastle's youth system and originally broke into the first team late in the 1998/99 season, making his debut against Tottenham Hotspur at St. James' Park. He made a further three starting appearances the following season but wasn't in the first team picture during the 2000/01 season when he spent time at Motherwell on loan.

Jamie was delighted to comment:
"Being a Newcastle lad I have never wanted to do anything but play for Newcastle United and signing this new contract is a great thrill for me. "I had a good spell in the team midway through last season and just when I was really enjoying myself, and doing justice to myself, the calf injury I sustained in training halted me in my tracks and, at the same time, was obviously a major disappointment. I'm looking forward to pre-season training starting next month and then trying to begin again where I left off last March."
