Former striker pays tribute to club

Former Bolton Wanderers striker Nathan Blake has paid tribute to his old club ahead of this weekend's Premiership clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers in which he will be hoping to improve his current club's fortunes having seen the Midlanders score just one goal so far.

Welsh international Blake, a former record signing for Bolton in 1995 from Sheffield United, reminices about his days at the club where he formed one of the best striking partnerships of the modern day era with John McGinlay as well as the record breaking Promotion season of 1996-1997 when the club returned to the Premiership at the first attempt.

"I've got great memories of Bolton - we had a great team, a great manager, great chairman - in fact the board were fantastic," said Blake.

"It's the only club I've been at where I knew the chairman and board members by their first names and they probably created the best atmosphere.

"It was like a family and it was the best I've known for that type of atmosphere where everyone knows everyone else and everyone was working towards the same thing." he said of his days with the Lancashire club

"I've always enjoyed playing off people. At Bolton with John McGinlay we didn't have that sort of attacking formation where we had a target man, we both played with our backs away from goal rather than facing goal. We got to the Premiership, then there was the new stadium and it was a fantastic time which I really enjoyed.

"I won promotion with Blackburn but with Bolton it was the way we won it - we were streets ahead with 100 points and 100 goals - which was most pleasing. It's just that we were unfortunate to go down the season after. I just think with the investment that went into the new stadium they didn't invest as much in the team as they would have liked. We gave it a good go but we ended up slipping down again, but as far as clubs go it was fantastic." he added
