Should we look up or down?
His men were hanging on

With the form we’ve had in recent weeks typified by the excellent second half football against Man United, many fans now feel that Europe is a target that is achievable. Whilst I’ve also been massively impressed by the team, the fact remains that we’ve only won three Premiership fixtures at home this season – and statistics like that point to a relegation fight rather than a quest for European football. Don’t get me wrong, this is a fantastic Bolton side and the fact that Alex Ferguson men were hanging on shows have far the club has progressed.

If we are to make the next step then we need to find that killer touch. Tim Howard was a revelation the United goal, but with all the chances we produced, there was no one who could put the ball in the back of their net! We had high hope when Jardel arrived at the club, and if things haven’t worked out with him, we still hope that we’ll have better luck with Moreno. Both enjoyed excellent pedigree’s before arriving at the Reebok, but you have to be honest and ask yourself why are the here? If they’re that good, how is it that their clubs have let them go out on loan? Why are we getting these guys for nothing?

We also need a couple of new faces to see us through the next couple of months – Okocha and Ricky Gardner will be missed – and that squad is looking very threadbare. Simon Charlton has played heroically  at centre-back and now he’s moving to left-back we’re looking to Bruno N’Gotty and Emerson Thome to keep up the good work. It’ll be tough as I don’t think they’ll be as solid due to the fact they’ll play a bit square.

We now face Blackburn – a side who have under performed this season and who’ve missed both Dunn and particularly Duff. They bought Barry Ferguson who was playing very well before his injury at Newcastle and they’ve also brought in young Gallacher who’s doing well – but they already have a squad with capable goalscorers with Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke – I’d love Bolton to have Cole in our side! But saying that, if we maintain our present form I’m confident of picking up at least a point – if not three at Ewood.
