I don't know where the Celtic rumours come from

I’ve been at this club for quite a few years and I’m happy. Over the past two season’s we’ve made big progress and we’re in the Champions League for the second year running. When I went back to Peru in the beginning of the summer I got a call from some friends and they were saying “what’s all this about Celtic?” I haven’t got a clue where these rumours came from. I have a very good relationship with my agent – Horacio Lourda - and I can say that we have not been involved in any talks with Celtic or any other club.

I think that with the signings of Darren Ambrose and Lee Bowyer, many people have decided that it must be that Nolberto Solano is leaving. If the club want to sell me than there is little I can do. But I have been told nothing other than that I’m wanted by the club, in fact the Chairman has spoken to my agent and has told him that there are no plans to sell me. However, I didn’t expect Beckham to leave Man Utd and in football the unexpected can happen. As for Celtic, it is a big complement for me to be linked with them. In a lot of ways they are a similar club to Newcastle. Their support is simply fantastic and when I saw the pictures of the UEFA Cup Final in Sevilla, it was incredible. Celtic are also in the Champions League, so they are a big club off and on the pitch.

But the speculation is speculation – and I can’t do anything about that! So as far as I am concerned I am staying. Pre-season training is good but hard, maybe harder than last year and today we’ve been down at Durham doing a lot of running. I think the whole club is excited about the new season and we’re all very much looking forward to the Premiership and another Champions League competition. We learnt a lot last year and I think we’ll be better prepared this time with better confidence. So once again, let me say that I am a Newcastle United player, I love the club and the City, the club have not put me on the transfer list and I have no plans to leave. I’m looking forward to the start of the season and unless something unexpected happens, I’ll be wearing the black and white stripes.
