Six goals, let's make it six points! - 20/04/2002

Six goals and three points against Everton, now let's make it six points with a win at Villa! Because if we do so, then we can still win the Championship. Yes, it is a long shot, but it's by no means impossible. The top three teams will drop points before the end of the season, and we'll be back in it if we can win our last seven.

Today's victory earnt us more than three points, not only was it a boost to our goal difference, but it was also great for our confidence. Not winning for the last few games isn't good, and confidence plays an important role in football. I thought the whole team played well today, OK the defence cannot be happy with the two Everton goals, but apart from that, what else did Everton create? I thought the 6-2 scoreline reflected the chances that were made by the respective teams. After the match I was interviewed with Alan Shearer and awarded the Man of the Match Champagne by Sky Sports, it's always nice to know that people appreciate my work. They asked me about Kieron Dyer and I told them that he is a tremendous player. He does so much for the team, both defensively and in attack. His pace is phenomenal, and although most people talk of him as an attacking midfielder, the way he closes down the opposition is a great help for his team mates. It looks like, fitness providing, he'll be off to the World Cup, and if he goes, he'll come back an even bigger star!

We play Villa on Tuesday, so I'll give you an update after the game. Hopefully we'll do the business and as long as we win, I'm happy to swap my Champagne for another three points! See you later...
