No investigation
Unpunished

STEVEN GERRARD will not be investigated by the Football Association following his controversial tackle on Newcastle's Nolberto Solano at the weekend.

The Liverpool skipper was seen to make a two-footed challenge on the Peruvian winger during the 1-1 draw at St James' Park on Saturday, but the FA have confirmed they will not be taking the matter any further.

Match referee Graham Poll has informed the governing body that he saw the tackle at the time and the fact he chose not to disipline the player or put it in his report means that no further action can be take as the FA cannot act on incidents which have been seen by an official.

Following television replays of the tackle suggestions had been made that Gerrard could be disciplined retrospectively, but as far as the FA are concerned the matter is now closed.
