Newcastle United boss Sir Bobby Robson has moved to clear up the confusion surrounding the future of the club's Peruvian winger Nolberto Solano.

The Magpies' veteran manager was widely reported to have said that he was prepared to listen to offers for Solano, but insists that his comments have been misinterpreted.

"We have never, ever this season put up a player for transfer so basically that means that there is no-one available," Robson told the club's official website.

"I can't even remember the question I was asked that set the speculation off, but I do know that I never proposed the name of Nobby Solano, I just said that Nobby Solano is not for sale.

"I did say, like any other manager in the Premier League would, that if we got an offer for any player - not just Nobby Solano - we would listen to it, it's as simple as that.

"Speculation has developed and grown since then, but only through the media and not through the football club.

"Whether it has been taken out of context or not I don't know, but it has been massively exaggerated."

Solano has made 240 appearances for the Magpies since his £2.7million move from Boca Juniors in 1998, but has only been on the fringes of the first team for most of this season.
