Aston Villa's Nolberto Solano scored from the penalty spot in the 74th minute to earn Peru a 1-1 draw in Paraguay in the South American World Cup qualifying group.

Argentina did not show the same form as last Saturday, when they thrashed Uruguay 4-2, and only managed a goalless draw in Chile.

Brazil were also held to a goalless draw at home by Colombia but Carlos Alberto Parreira's team still top the South America group.

The reigning champions have 20 points from 10 games, one ahead of Argentina from the same number of matches. Paraguay are a further three points adrift in third.
