The following report was published by Teamtalk...
Nobby Solano has re-opened the debate over Alan Shearer's retirement
from international football by insisting he would never do the same.
In an outburst which confirms Bobby Robson's worst fears over the
Peruvian's regular long-haul flights back to South America to play for
his country, Solano declared he is not ready to give up on that
honour. He said: "To play in the World Cup would make everybody proud.
"I don't know if Alan made his decision before England qualified for
the finals, but you have to respect his decision. "But if it was me, I
would want to play. Alan is certainly good enough to still be playing
for England. He gets 20 goals every season and England need a player
like that. "You need experienced players and from England's point of
view if is a pity that he's not playing."
I say...
As for confirming Bobby Robson's 'worst fears', I'd just like to say that the journalist has made an assumption that this would be the case. My relationship with the manager is good and we both understand each others situation. The article gives the impression that we have fallen out with each other - this simply isn't true!
