LITTLE PRAISE FOR ROBINS - 10/11/2004

Tranmere boss Brian Little was full of praise for Bristol City, who ended Rovers' four-match winning streak with a thumping 4-0 win at Ashton Gate.

Steve Brooker hit a double for Brian Tinnion's side, but Luke Wilkshire earned the plaudits with the second goal - a volley from 40 yards - before netting a late penalty to complete the rout.

Little said: "We were clearly second best on the night and City's second goal was absolutely fantastic.

"The lad clearly meant to shoot and you have to take your hat off to him. They played exceptionally well, while we didn't defend as we can.

"The third goal was a disaster for us early in the second half. Our goalkeeper has chosen to leave his area with three defenders in control of the situation and it was a poor decision.

"At half-time I stressed we needed to keep it at 2-0 for a while to give ourselves a chance. But that goal really killed us off."

City boss Brian Tinnion enthused: "Every one of my players is on top of his game".

He added: "Luke Wilkshire's was the best goal I have seen in my 12 years at Ashton Gate. To spot the keeper off his line is one thing, but you also have to execute the shot and Luke did that to perfection. He won't score a better goal.

"Overall I was delighted with the team. Tranmere are a good side and will be up there when it matters, so to score four and not concede was a terrific effort.

"The scoreline may have flattered us slightly, but after the first 20 minutes we were in control and scored some excellent goals while defending solidly."
