It was another successful night at the Telewest as we won the ‘Northern Masters’ event and qualify for the final which this year will held on home ‘turf’ - at the Telewest Arena on the 7th of September. We started a little slowly and never really got into gear as we beat Everton 1-0 and then Middlesbrough by the same score. However we were really just saving it for the derby game and hammered the Makems 7-1!!! We played some really good football – even if I’m saying it myself and Sunderland just couldn’t live with us. So at the end of the league stage we were top - having won three from three. Boro were second and as a result we faced the Teeside team, who were without their previous top scorer Bernie Slaven, in the play-off final. Again we played some good stuff and with Pedro getting us off the mark with a penalty, we had the game controlled – even with Kevin Scott unfortunately scoring an own goal and John Hendrie getting a late consolation.

I have to say that the atmosphere in the arena was the best it’s ever been, and tickets for the finals will probably be hard to get. If you’ve never been to the Maters before, give it a go. We came so close last year, Liverpool edged it even though their squad was quite alot older than ours. However we’ve added Ruel Fox and my old mate Rob Lee to the team and it’s made a difference. For me, we’ve got a real chance of lifting the National trophy – and if we do, it’ll be a great party. Tell you what though, I’d rather have won that Premiership back in ’96!!!

It was great to see some old faces and we had a drink or two afterwards. Same old story though, Rob Lee never got the drinks in!!

Anyone interested in seeing the final can book by calling 0870 707 8000. Hope to see you in September!
