Still a Newcastle player - 10/09/2003

   West Ham United

West Ham have been on the look out for a left-back as Rufus Brevett is out injured for something like five months. Itís been common knowledge that they were looking at both Quinny and myself, and today I learn that itís him and not me making the trip south.

Whereas Iím pleased for Quinny, personally, itís quite disappointing. It may have been easier for the clubs to agree his financial package, but West Ham would have been an ideal move for me, and whilst Iíve received a few offers to play elsewhere, Iíll stay and fight for a place at Newcastle until the right offer comes along. I believe I can do a good job in the Premiership, and although Iíd be happy to move to some of the bigger clubs in the first division, I donít want to leave my home town club to go to any team.

Iím under no illusion where I stand at Newcastle, however I was called up to the squad for the Partizan game in the Champions League and this evidences the fact that things can change quickly in football. Rufus Brevettís injury created the opening at West Ham and you never know what is around the corner. Iíll keep training hard and if the call does come - Iíll be ready.
