Still a Newcastle player - 10/09/2003

West Ham have been on the look out for a left-back as Rufus Brevett is out injured for something like five months. It’s been common knowledge that they were looking at both Quinny and myself, and today I learn that it’s him and not me making the trip south.

Whereas I’m pleased for Quinny, personally, it’s quite disappointing. It may have been easier for the clubs to agree his financial package, but West Ham would have been an ideal move for me, and whilst I’ve received a few offers to play elsewhere, I’ll stay and fight for a place at Newcastle until the right offer comes along. I believe I can do a good job in the Premiership, and although I’d be happy to move to some of the bigger clubs in the first division, I don’t want to leave my home town club to go to any team.

I’m under no illusion where I stand at Newcastle, however I was called up to the squad for the Partizan game in the Champions League and this evidences the fact that things can change quickly in football. Rufus Brevett’s injury created the opening at West Ham and you never know what is around the corner. I’ll keep training hard and if the call does come - I’ll be ready.
