Elliott eyeing Toon deal - 19/09/2004
Robbie Elliott has revealed that the wind of change which swept through St James' Park has breathed new life into his Newcastle career.
The versatile defender had been cast into the wilderness by former Magpies chief Sir Bobby Robson and seemed certain to be shipped out of the club in the summer.
An injury crisis at the start of the season saw him selected in the squad by Robson, although it appeared a temporary measure.
The Magpies opted to replace Robson due to their poor start to the season and his replacement, Graeme Souness, handed Elliott the captain's armband for his first game in charge.
Elliott is likely to relinquish the armband on Sunday, as Alan Shearer is set to be restored to the team, but he admits the new regime has reinvigorated him.
"I'm really enjoying the new regime and my aim is to stay in the side and win a new contract," he said.
