Easing ourselves back - 27/07/2002
I’ve heard a few people question the worth of the Holland trip. It was a fair time to be away from home and the travelling also took it out of the lads a little bit, but it’s all about preparing for the competitive games. The opposition weren’t exactly top quality but the games did enable us to get some match practice and lift our fitness levels. A few years ago this meant long jogs and running up hills but now it’s a lot more sophisticated. We played quite a few games in quick succession, but with the lads playing only for one half of the game, it was a gentle introduction to pick up match sharpness. With changing the team around so much, the boss also gets a chance to see the full squad in action.
Personally I feel good, we just got back today and then we’re off to Hartlepool for a game on Monday. This will be our first 90 minutes so it’s going to be tough – but beneficial. We then have a little bit of a break and then the a trip away to Oldham and possibly a few minutes against Wolves the following day! I think it’s fair to say I’ll be enjoying a break on the Sunday!
