Good to be back on the pitch - 06/04/2004
It's good to be back on the pitch again and I enjoyed playing against Boston last Thursday. After working hard in the gym and on the training ground nothing beats actually playing the game. I've been doing special exercises to strengthen the back and I feel better now than I have in ages. I just want to play, and after agreeing to give it only 45 minutes I actually went on and played an hour.
I'd love to get in some first team football, but it doesn't seem the club are willing to let me go. Maybe this'll change in the summer but I really don't know. I'd be happy to go on loan to any club in the Nationwide, but Newcastle pay my wages and if they won't let me go then there's nothing I can do.
We've got a massive game on Thursday night and I think a draw would be a great result. I'm confident we'll beat them at St.James because we're playing with confidence and getting results, but over in Holland it'll be difficult.
I saw that Ruud Gullit criticised Alan Shearer in the papers recently, and although we're not playing Gullit's Feyenoord, I'm sure Al will want to score against the Dutch side. To be honest Ruud just made himself look stupid. The figures speak for themselves and his goals record and the fact that he was voted the top Premiership player of the decade seem to have been forgotten by the ex-gaffer.
I'd settle for a score draw, and no prizes for guessing who I'd tip to score for us!
