Shrewsbury boss Gary Peters could add ex-Carlisle and Newcastle midfielder Jamie McClen to his squad for Saturday's game against Leyton Orient.
The 26-year-old was released by the Cumbrians in December, but has impressed Peters while on trial.
"I want the chance to show what I can do," he told BBC Radio Shropshire.
"I had to compete with some big-money players at St James's Park, and I believe I can deliver more than I could with Newcastle's reserves."
