Newcastle United left back Robbie Elliott is expecting Bolton Wanderers to bring a team of resilience to St James Park tommorow afternoon.

The 32-year old Geordie spent four years with the Trotters in between two spells with his hometown club and he says he expects nothing less than a tough battle when coming up against his former employers.

"They always come up here and give us a battle." said Elliott to the Newcastle Evening Chronicle.

Elliott also paid tribute to the methods used by former manager Sam Allardyce and said that his enjoyment at the Reebok was partly down to the relationship which he built with the Bolton cheif during their time working together. "Sam's fantastic as a manager. He is not scared to try new things. If they work he will keep them and not ditch things. My time at Bolton was four of my best years. I enjoyed my time there and a lot of that was down to him." "It's always nice to come up against your old club and friends.

They are disappointed after their European exit but they have a big carrot in front of them to get there again. European football was unheard of at Bolton at one point but fair play to Sam and his backroom staff, they have been playing their way and it will be tough.

Between 1997 and 2001 Elliott made 93 appearances scoring five goals for Bolton before then Newcastle manager Sir Bobby Robson took him back to Tyneside on a Bosman transfer. After a spell out of favour he forced his way back into first team contention under the stewardship of Graeme Souness and has since appeared in the side during Glenn Roeder's spell as caretaker boss.
