All my managers had provided inspiration, but most of all it's my mum and dad who went without so I could have the things I wanted.

The last game at Burnden when we were promoted as Champions with a record points total, I also scored both goals and in the process won another golden boot - a great day at the office!!

Missing out on the France '98 World Cup, I was injured and although I may not have made the final squad, I'll never know.

10.

Celtic

11.
Team I Love to Hate
If you're a Celtic fan, that one's a bit obvious (and they hate me!!).

12.
Best Goal Scored
For Scotland against Sweden at Ibrox (of all places) in a World Cup qualifyer. A ball was put through by Tom Boyd, Darren Jackson dummied it and I gave Bjorkland an elbow before running through on Ravelli and rolling it past him.

13.
Best Match and Why?
I can't split the best two, so I'll say both. One was on my debut for Scotland away to Austria in the World Cup. The other was Bolton's 2-0 victory at Liverpool in the League Cup. Dalglish had been my hero and to score and win against his team at Anfield was incredible. I also think it was the game that provided the spark to set Bolton on the up.

14.
What was your ambition in football when you signed your first professional contract?
Just to get a game!!! It all happened so late for me.

15.
Do you have any match day superstitutions?
So many, but the main ones are to wear long-sleeved shirts (playing and managing), I was always last out of the changing room and used to keep 'winning' tie-ups.

16.
Favourite group?
Rod Stewart and Elvis are my favourites. We took the family around Gracelands and I gave all five kids those disposable cameras. I told them to take photo's of me where ever I went - got about 200 of them!

17.
Best transfer at any of your clubs?
An unsung hero who deserved more attention than he got - Keith Branagan for Bolton (and he cost the club nothing as he signed on a free transfer).

18.
'Dreamteam' or 'Footballer's wives'?
The kids love Dreamteam, but I've never really watched either of them.

19.
Favourite group?
Rod Stewart and Elvis are my favourites. We took the family around Gracelands and I gave all five kids those disposable cameras. I told them to take photo's of me where ever I went - got about 200 of them!

20. Best advice given?
It's nothing really a football thing, but either Gerry Gow or Ian McNeil told me to 'treat people how you'd like them to treat you'.
